Hey everyone,
I am back today with a post about the ever so annoying....oily skin! As far as I remember, I think I have always had oily skin, especially when I was in my teenage years. I have always suffered from excess oil on my skin around the T-zone area especially. I never really used much products on my skin as a young teenager, as when you are that age you don't really have the money to be buying products and your pretty much oblivious to makeup and proper skincare (well I was anyways). I didn't really start wearing foundation on my skin until I was about 17 or so. I remember I used to hate the feel of foundation on my skin and I always wanted to take it off straight away! (strange eh? now I love makeup and everything about it)
As I got older I started to pay attention to my skin more and trying to always make sure that I took off my makeup after a night out or whatever I was up to that I had makeup on my face. I noticed that when I didn't take my makeup off and that I slept with it all on my face, the next morning my skin would look crap and just generally dirty! Obviously going through my teenage years and going through the menstrual cycle of course my skin would get worse around that particular time each month. This happened no matter how good I was with my skin! But this can't be helped as that time of the month is a natural thing and your hormones are imbalanced.
During my time in college, my skincare was quite basic at the start. I would always have my beloved makeup removing wipes and moisturiser for afterwards. I would now and again buy a toner or an eye cream but it was definitely not regular. Also the night outs involving drinking, eating shit food afterwards and just being hungover in general does not help your skin one bit! But we learn as we grow older and move on through different stages of life!
As I got to my last year of college (I think) I started to gain a lot more interest into my skincare routine. I would look up about the best way to clean your face day and night and what products were the best to use etc. It was only since around then or the year after that I really began to realise that you have to take certain steps to getting healthy glowing skin!
The steps that I follow (finally) are:
1. Cleanse/Exfoliate
The other day I bought a cleanser which exfoliates as well so a 2 in 1 (oil free) which is really handy.
2. Tone
I didn't always use toner but now I use it all the time. I also bought an oil free toner the other day as well.
3. Serum
I only started using serums over a year ago or so. At this very moment I don't have a serum as I am trying out a sample of one that I got.
4. Moisturizer
I was using a particular moisturiser until the other day when I found out that It was not helping with my oily skin and that It was making it more oily! So now I am using an oil free gel cream.
5. Eye Cream
This step is also pretty new (ish) to me as I always thought that the moisturiser done the same job. But I was wrong. So right now I am using a sample that I got.
So over the past few months I had noticed that my skin was getting extra oily, where it was making my face extra shiny, have to blot it away with tissue or use extra powder to get rid of the shine. I just didn't like it because it was never really that bad before! I didn't know really why this was happening. I thought maybe I was wearing makeup more or not drinking enough water or my diet etc. I was washing and cleansing my face etc but it didn't seem to be making a difference, my skin was still really oily along the T-zone area. So the other day I went into the Kiehl's shop which I will explain more down below.........
Some of the products that I am now using are very recent purchases as I went into the Kiehl's shop and explained to one of the people that was working there about my skin and how it was really oily lately. So they sat me down and showed me some stuff, explained to me what would work and why that the particular moisturiser that I was using from Kiehl's before I went in, was the wrong one for my skin. However I was told that I could use that moisturiser during the winter because it is thicker. This is because peoples' skin tends to get damaged or dry during the winter and its weather. When I was told that I was using the wrong moisturiser I was a little annoyed because I had gotten that one at home in Ireland where the lady told me at the time that It would be perfect for my skin. Now I will say that it didn't cause any breakouts or anything like that on my skin, it simply just made my skin extra oily because there was a good bit of oil in that moisturiser which then added to my natural oils in my skin!
But anyways I am starting fresh with new products and I am excited to see if they will make a change and help with the oily skin.
The products that I bought the other day are as follows:
 |
| These are the 4 products I bought the other day |
 |
| This is the oil free cleanser that also exfoliates the skin 150ml |
This cleanser so far is leaving my skin feel really clean and it is very gentle on the skin. I use it day and night. This cost me $32 (Canadian dollars) which is about €22.
 |
| This is the oil free toner 250ml |
This is an alcohol free toner (no more stinging on the skin) and it is also oil free which makes such a difference when you put it on the skin. It helps tighten the pores and leaves your face feeling fresh. I also use this morning and night. This one cost me $23 (Canadian dollars) which is around €16.
 |
| This is the oil free gel cream 50ml |
The oil free gel cream so far feels so different on the skin, it soaks it pretty fast and leaves a nice glow on the skin. It is also recommended that you put it in the fridge as it is then really cooling and soothing on the skin. This cost me $34 (Canadian dollars) which is roughly €24.
 |
| The Creme De Corps all over body moisturiser 75ml |
This is the final product that I purchased. I got the smallest size just to try it out because I had heard a lot of great things about this cream for the body. So I wanted to give it a go (I haven't opened it yet). This little size cost me $13 (Canadian dollars) which is about €9.
I had a really good experience in the store, the person that helped me was called Peter and was so helpful and just explained everything really well! Along with the 4 purchases, I was also given 7 free samples to try out which I am currently doing at the moment. I usually never get that many free samples with purchases of skin care so this was really good and an extra bonus. Down below is the products that I got along with the 7 free samples that I received as well. Some of the samples are a nice size sample which I also like as you get a few uses out of it. Hence helping you to determine whether you like it or not.
The last picture is a thank you note that was put into my bag saying that if I needed further help or had any other question to ring the number or drop into the store again. This I thought was a really nice touch.
(I forgot to take a picture of a free cup of tea from Davids Tea that I was also given and a Gap discount of 25% off in store until January next year!)
So at the moment this is what I am going to be using on my skin for the next while and hopefully (fingers crossed) that it will help with the oily skin and just improve my skin altogether.
Hope ye enjoyed the post :)
